Robert Paul McVoy, 71, a Navy captain who retired in 1985 and was an active volunteer, died Feb. 20 at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. He had pulmonary fibrosis and pneumonia.
Capt. McVoy was a Chicago native and a 1955 graduate of College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He received a master's degree in political science from George Washington University in 1971.
He was in the Navy 30 years, including service as executive officer on the minesweeper Bulwark, the radar picket escort ship Lansing and the guided missile cruiser Standley. He also commanded the guided missile frigate Furer and guided missile cruiser Wainwright.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
In his later years, he served with the chief of naval operations. In his final active-duty assignment, he was a department head for the strategic plans division.
His decorations included the Defense Superior Service Medal, four awards of the Meritorious Service Medal and two awards of the Navy Commendation Medal.
A Washington area resident on and off since 1970 -- and permanently since 1985 -- he was a former president of the Strathmeade Square homeowners association in Annandale.
He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Annandale and a founding member of the Knights of Columbus chapter at the church.
He did volunteer work for the Books on Wheels and Meals on Wheels programs in Northern Virginia.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lene Jensen McVoy of Annandale; two sons, Jens R. McVoy of New York and Paul Henrik McVoy of Annandale; a sister; and three grandchildren.

Jerry passed away several years ago after a long illness precipitated
by diabetes and a series of strokes. Jerry was well known and popular on the Furer and was always cheerful with something good to say. We miss him very much.

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. -- Senior Chief Petty Officer John Clifton
Wisnosky, United States Navy (retired), entered into eternal
rest on the morning of May 4, 2005 in Goose Creek, S.C. He
was husband of Jean East Wisnosky.
Mr. Wisnosky was born April 6, 1935 in Pepperell, a son of Albert
Wisnosky and Myra Harper Wisnosky. He was a retired United
States veteran with 30 years of services to his country and was
also retired from the Operations Personnel Management with the
Naval Weapons Station. Mr. Wisnosky was a member of the
Fleet Reserve Chapter 50.
Surviving are his wife of Goose Creek; his daughter, Jean W. Moseley of Summerville, S.C.; two sisters, Theresa Unger of Massachusetts and Lorraine Ward of Brookline, N.H.; and a brother, Frank Wisnosky of Pittsburg, Penn. Surviving also Mr. Wisnosky are his two grandsons, Shane L. Moseley, Jr. and Codey J. Moseley.
Funeral services were held in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Greenridge Road Chapel, North Charleston, S.C., Saturday, May 7. Burial followed in Dorchester Memory Gardens, Summerville, S.C. with full military honors.
